Lockmiller, Harrison, Pvt., Co. D, 43rd Tennessee Infantry, age 21, enlisted November 1, 1861 at Decatur, Tenn., died of acute dysentery at Vicksburg Hospital February 4, 1863, buried in Soldiers Rest, Vicksburg City Cemetery under the name, B. F. Miller, grave no. 743, widow Angline and daughter Mary resided in McMinn Co., Tenn., son James Harrison born 15 days after his death. Vicksburg's Fisher Funeral Home records list him thus, “Miller, H. L., 5 Feb 1863; Co. D 43 Ten.; V. B. Hospital; Grave 743.” He is on the Sexton's list for Cedar Hill Cemetery/City Cemetery as H. L. Miller. An interesting tid bit. The Lockmiller family signed all their documents as Lock Miller. Thus, Harrison Lockmiller would sign as Harrison Lock Miller. Clerks would interpret and abbreviate as H. L. Miller. Three brothers died during the war, and all three are buried under the name Miller. |
