Mathis, Jackson, Pvt., Co. F, 43rd Tennessee Infantry, age 22, enlisted November
9, 1861 at Roane Co., Tenn., died June 29, 1863, at sunup . . . died of
spasms. He did not live five minutes after he took sick. Mathisas [sic] . .
. died in the trenches this morning of cramp. He was in the trenches, buried in
Soldiers Rest, Vicksburg City Cemetery.
