Lawson, William J., 4th Sgt., Co. E, 43rd Tennessee Infantry, age 18, enlisted November 5, 1861, at Rogersville, Tenn. as 4th Cpl., elected 4th Sgt  May 10, 1862, died in the hospital of fever May 30, 1863 [burial records show a Lawson, no rank, regiment, etc., who died May 24, 1863 and buried in Potters Field, Vicksburg City Cemetery]

Concerning the two cards above -- On the Sep & Oct 1862 company muster roll William Lawson is a 4th Sgt. Sometime between then and the Nov & Dec 1862 muster roll, William Lawson was promoted to 2nd Sgt.

George is the great-great-grandnephew of Tennessee soldier Isaac Martin.
