Capt. Adaire was in the 4th Miss. Inf., Co. E. He enlisted for one year on 24 Aug 1861 in Grenada, Miss.

His Company Muster Roll card for Aug 24, 1861, to Aug 1862, reports, "Escaped from Donelson, 16 Feb 1862 and resigned 12 Apr 1862."

He was born 17 May 1829 and "killed in defence of Vicksburg" 6 Jun 1863. He was age 34 when he died.

He left a wife, Elizabeth Francis Adaire of Choctaw Co., Miss.

Above, Elizabeth Francis Adaire has appeared before an acting Justice of the Peace in Choctaw Co., Miss., and swears "on the holy evangelist of almighty God" that she is the wife of W. H. Adaire, Capt. of Co. E, 4th Regt. Miss. Vols., killed on the 6th day of June 1863, and that she is therefore entitled to what is due him from the Confederate States. She has brought with her a witness, Martha H. Ross (?) to vouch for her being the wife of the Captain, as is usually done in these cases.
