Solomon B. Auter was born in 1831 in Ohio. At his death, he was a resident of Vicksburg.

He enlisted 26 Apr 1862 in Vicksburg in the 1st Miss. Lt Arty (Cowan's Battery), Co. G. He was 30 years old.

A voucher of 9 Jun of the same year shows that he served as clerk in the quarter master’s department. On Oct of that year, he was on detached service in regimental quarter master’s department, Mobile, Ala, and Vicksburg.

Paroled at Vicksburg 7 Jul 1863 after fall of Vicksburg. He was at parole camp 6 Nov 1863.

At end of war, he was captured at Blakely, Ala., on 9 Apr 1865, and transferred 15 Apr to Ship Island, Miss., then to Vicksburg on 1 May 1865.
