James P. Aden enlisted with 1st Miss. State Troops in Canton as a Pvt. 4 Jul 1862. On 1 Jan 1863, he was promoted to 4th sergeant. On the 1860 census for Canton, Madison Co., Miss., he is shown as a carriage and wagon maker. He is married to E. J. Aden. His birthplace is listed as Kentucky. He and his wife are also on the Canton, Madison Co., Miss., census for 1870, where he is listed as a wheelwright. He was born in Kentucky and died in Vicksburg. The small marker at center right in the photo has the name James P. Aden, born 1858. He may very well be their son, "Jay," listed on the 1870 census, age 13. He died 31 May 1924. |
