1844 1863

Daniel F. Swann enlisted by William Bradford for twelve months 15 Feb 1862 as a Private in Capt. John D. Thomas' Company, Tennessee Volunteers, at Dandridge, Jefferson Co., Tenn. He was 18 years old.

This group became 31st Reg Tenn Inf, Co. C, (Bradford's). Later, on 6 Jun 1863, this regiment became the 39th Tenn. Mtd. Inf.

He died near Vicksburg 16 Feb 1863. At that time, his regiment was located at Reynold's Camp about four miles south of the city.

Isaac Stamper of the 43rd Tenn. Inf., Co. F, wrote in his diary of Monday the 16th, the day Daniel Swann died, "It began to rain at daylight and rained all day and all night, covering the ground with so much water it was almost impossible to get about."

His grave marker appears to be an old one and may have been set by friends or family.
