Lieut. M. L. Skiffington, age 26, enrolled 20 Jul 1861 in Capt. Felix Hughes' Company, Bonham's Regiment, in Vicksburg. On 27 Jul, in Iuka, Miss., he mustered into service. This regiment eventually became the 22 Reg't. Miss. Inf. On the company muster roll for 1 Jan to 1 May 1862, it is noted that he "Died at Shelbyville, Tenn., March [1862]." On the company muster roll for 1 May to 1 Sept 1862, it is noted that he "died at Shelbyville, Tenn, March 2nd." Lieut. Skiffington's marker is in what appears to be his family lot down the hill from Soldiers' Rest. Fisher Funeral Home Records, Vicksburg, Miss., has this entry (pg. 189) -- "Skiffington, M. L.
(Lieut.), 9 Mar 1862; 28 y.; Typhoid Pneumonia; Died in the Country"
