Jerry McKenna

___ Co., Ireland

died
Jan. 23, 1888

Jerry McKenna was born 1841 in Ireland. The county of his birth is not readable on his grave marker and will require a little research. He died 23 Jan 1888, age 47.

He joined for duty 10 May 1861 at Corinth, signing on for twelve months with Capt. H. H. Miller's Co., Vicksburg Sharpshooters, Miss. Vols. He was enrolled by Capt. Miller. He had traveled 345 miles for this rendezvous. He appeared on the company muster roll for 12 May 1861.

McKenna served as a pvt in the 12th Miss Inf, Co. G.

Miller's company eventually became the 12th Miss Inf. In a re-organization in Apr 1862. The letters of all companies, except D, were changed.

This was seen on the compiled service record --
"Remark: The Co. was enrolled in the service of the state of Missipi. March 13, 1861, at Vicksburg, Missipi."

Jerry McKenna was discharged 6 Oct 1861 (no reason given in this CSR) and was paid on 11 Oct 1861 by R. H. Taliaferro.

His compiled service record on Fold 3 uses the names of J. McKenney and Jerry McKenney.
